CRISIS AND EMERGENCY FOOD BANK…

Front-line agencies are the referrers, so we know that recipients are not only in legitimate need, but are also accessing wrap-around professional support.

We use the Aotoearoa food parcel meaure - AFPM. Enough food for 4 days including fresh produce, snacks and meats. We also provide toiletries, baby care items and accommodate special dietary requirements such as gluten free and vegetarian and non cooking or non perishable (suitable for those with no address or limited facilities).

“The GWT food bank has been an important resources to access for some of my clients. Their quick service and ability to deliver has greatly helped those in need while ensuring clinical hours are not taken up by unnecessary travel”

LD - RN, Adult Community Mental Health Services North.

I applied for a client at 12:50pm, and promptly received a confirmation within a matter of minutes that a food parcel would be delivered that day. My client sent me positive feedback at 3:30pm to confirm that they had received a food parcel with an abundance of essential items, fresh, frozen and non-perishable food. This alleviated significant pressure from my client, and resulted in her children having nutritional food on their table. This service is invaluable.

Thanks again for your amazing mahi - this was such a straightforward process, and really helped N. out when he needed it.

JT - Community Support Worker, Ember

The service has been a life saver for my clients and as social worker, I am very grateful for the efficient and professional service I have received from GWT.

Thank you so much.

OUR PROCESS…

Referring agencies are provided with the passcode that allows them to access our online food parcel request portal

A referrer enters their details then their clients details including:

  • What is the emergency that requires emergency food support. This helps inform how and what we pack. The emergency might be medical, housing related, family harm, un-anticipated financial issues, child care or child safety, mental health …

  • Address for delivery if delivery is required or where to meet if no fixed abode

  • Kitchen facilities - full, limited, no cooking facilities at all…

  • Number of adults and kids

  • Food choices such as yes or no to fresh produce, tea, coffee and if there are any dietary requirements such as gluten, dairy, vegetarian, halal, no beef or pork, soft food or no cooking required (no fixed abode)

  • If they require hygiene products such as period products, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, dishwash liquid or laundry powder

  • If they require pet food - pets are family too, particularly for complex clients

Once the form is submitted it arrives in our inbox and we reply confirming to the referrer that we have received it and whether it will be delivered today or tomorrow. Cut off for same day delivery is 12.00pm Monday - Thursday and 11.30am Fridays.

Our pool of volunteer drivers deliver the parcels to the clients door but do not enter the address.
